Government & Public Sector

Public work, delivered to a public standard.

New Block works with cities, counties, state agencies, and special districts on websites, accessibility, AI, and outreach. Certified for public procurement and built for the scrutiny public work receives.

Who this covers

Organizations we mean when we say government & public sector

Community choice aggregators are covered under Energy & Utilities. School districts, community colleges, and public universities are covered under Education. Both carry the same public-agency obligations described here.

Local government

Cities and counties, including departments, commissions, and municipal programs.

Special districts

Water, transit, fire, parks, library, and other independent districts and joint powers authorities.

State agencies

California departments, boards, and commissions subject to state accessibility and procurement rules.

Public programs

Grant-funded initiatives and public-private programs that report to a council or board.

What you're up against

The problems we get hired to solve.

  1. The ADA Title II clock

Entities serving 50,000 or more people must reach WCAG 2.1 AA by April 26, 2027. Special districts and smaller entities have until April 26, 2028. Most agencies have more inaccessible content than they realize, especially PDFs.

  2. Procurement friction

Good vendors are hard to bring on quickly. Certified small business partners can qualify for set-asides and simplified acquisition, which shortens the path from need to contract.

  3. Trust and clarity

Residents expect to find services, pay, apply, and report in a few taps, in their language, on their phone. Every failure becomes a call or a counter visit.

  4. Doing more with the same staff

Records requests, resident questions, and internal paperwork keep growing. AI can absorb real volume when it is deployed with human review and audit trails.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is New Block a certified small business for California procurement?

Yes. New Block holds the California DGS Small Business certification, LA County LSBE and CBE certifications, and MBE certifications from NMSDC and the CPUC Supplier Clearinghouse. These can qualify engagements for set-aside programs and simplified acquisition and count toward supplier diversity goals.

Can you help us meet the ADA Title II deadline?

Yes. We audit websites, apps, forms, and documents against WCAG 2.1 AA, remediate templates and content, and produce conformance documentation and an accessibility statement. Entities serving 50,000 or more people have until April 26, 2027. Special districts and smaller entities have until April 26, 2028.

Do you work with special districts and joint powers authorities?

Yes. Special districts carry the same public obligations as cities with smaller staffs and often older systems. We scope work to fit district budgets and board approval cycles, and we understand the 2028 Title II deadline that applies to most of them.

How do you handle public records and sensitive data?

We design for public records requirements from the start, including records-friendly content workflows and data handling reviewed with your IT and counsel. AI deployments include human review, access control, and audit logging.

Can we start without a full RFP?

Often. Our certifications can qualify engagements for small business set-asides and simplified acquisition paths under state and county rules. We are glad to walk your procurement office through what applies.
